Preparation

Training Day 1: We were educated on the basic skills (e.g. Cooking, what Food to Bring, First Aid, Setting up Tents etc.) This took place on school premises, and was a good introduction to what lay ahead.

Training Day 2: We learnt Map Reading Skills, How to Prepare Food, and we experienced carrying heavy rucksacks for the first time. This took place in Ardnavalley Scout Centre in Belfast.

The Wallace High School provides participants with certain kit items, e.g a waterproof coat, waterproof trousers, sleeping bags (with liners), and a roll mat. We had to bring cooking utensils, food and snacks, water, a personal first aid kit, a headtorch and toiletries.
